Hero Horse is an Equine Rescue serving Northwest Louisiana. All of our Hero Horses are rescues who have been, or are being, rehabilitated and trained in therapeutic activities. Per the Humane Society of the U.S, over 100,000 horses go to slaughter every year. Of this 100,000, 92% are healthy and could live out a productive life. Hero Horse is trying to do its part to keep horses out of slaughter and neglect by offering a second chance. Our horses take on average, one year to complete their healing and training, depending on their previous situation before arriving on site. Should a horse's personality not align with therapeutic activities, they will be available for adoption. Potential adopting families will go through a rigorous screening to ensure a safe and healthy environment awaits them.
Upon arrival, our horses are quarantined and observed for two weeks. During this time, they will have a visit with the vet and the farrier so that we can fully understand the scope of the rehabilitation needed. Our rescues will then be nurtured back to their healthy weight before any actual training can begin. This can be a lengthy and costly process. The ultimate goal is to integrate them into our working hero herd or find a loving home for them to live out a long and healthy life.
